Storytelling For Success - New Online Fashion Photography Course

Storytelling For Success by Olivia Bossert

Do you feel like your fashion photography work has plateaued, but have no idea why? You know your work is lacking depth and creativity, but can’t seem to unlock it from within you?

Trust me, I get it. Being a fashion photographer is difficult. You’ve got to set up your own shoots to build your portfolio, plan your clients’ shoots, come up with creative and exciting ideas, find the locations, pose the model, and find a team.

You’re likely feeling intimidated and shy around larger teams, feel anxious that the responsibility of the shoot lies on your shoulders and feel terrified at the thought of having to direct the whole thing.

And don’t get me started on the fear of not being good enough, whilst comparing yourself to other photographers on Instagram.

I know that you hate the fact that you don’t feel inspired by your own work, and have yet to find your personal style. It’s so hard to feel like you’re not reaching your full potential. In fact, it’s exhausting, and you often find yourself doubting whether you should even carry on with this dream of yours.

But there is a simple solution to all of these worries you’re experiencing, and when I tell you what it is, you’ll probably think “how on earth is that going to fix my problems?” (I’ll get to that).

The solution is learning how to tell a great story.

Honestly the easiest way to illustrate my point is just to tell you my own story, so here we go.

Two years ago, I went to see a photo consultant with years of experience in the industry. She looked through my portfolio and said: “Your work is pretty, but that’s about it. It lacks substance and doesn’t really make me feel anything.”

Ouch. Not what you want to hear.

But deep down, I knew she was right. Something had been telling me for years that I was missing a vital link in my work, but I couldn’t figure out what it was.

She explained to me that I needed to learn how to tell a real story with my images. That was a moment a lightbulb went off.

I went home that evening, and spent hours upon hours moodboarding, mind mapping, and working as hard as I could to figure out how to incorporate stories into my images.

It didn’t happen overnight, but that one lesson I learnt from that day changed everything for me. Over time, I learnt not only how to tell stories through my work, but just how incredibly important it is to attract new clients.

Visualise this for a moment:

  • Coming up with a shoot idea that feels so perfectly “you” and knowing in your gut that they’ll be amazing images

  • Your portfolio being filled with work that you’re proud of, and clients tell you that they love

  • Having a planning system in place for each of your shoots so that you never worry about it ever again

  • Feeling totally in control and relaxed on shoot days - no matter how big or small

  • Finally knowing what your style is

  • Getting booked for a job because a client saw a shoot you did and loved it

  • Overcoming that horrendous feeling of comparison with other photographers once and for all

The best part is that all of this is totally achievable. You already have all of your shoot ideas within you! You just need to learn how to unlock them and harness them. Your portfolio can be as impressive as you wish it was. You don’t need to be plagued by anxiety and self doubt around photoshoot days. You can have the career you dream of, and I’d love to share with you how,

Introducing: Storytelling For Success

I’m so excited to share my brand new self paced online course designed with you in mind. I know how hard you find planning shoots. I know how it is to struggle with intimidation, shyness and anxiety. I know how you fear having to step up and be the one in control of a shoot.

You don’t need to feel like that anymore.

Once you’ve taken this course, you’ll know exactly what you need to do to build that portfolio that you dream of, and shoot images for your clients that truly take their customers on a visual journey. You’ll feel a sense of trust in yourself that you never knew was there, and pride in your work. You’ll know how to come back to yourself time and time again, to look internally for ideas, and no longer feel the need to be influenced by other photographers in order to come up with concepts.

You’ll know how to plan each and every aspect of a shoot, how to make sure it’s perfectly executed on the day. You’ll know how to post your models, and find a team that want to work with you and feel just as excited about your idea as you do.

Inside this course is every single step.

“But hang on, why is the answer to all of my problems storytelling?”

When you see an image you adore, you feel something. You feel some kind of emotion and connection to it. It could be happy or sad. You could feel transported to a new world. You could feel absolutely anything… but the key word here is “feel.” It makes you feel something.

When you feel an emotional connection to an image, you remember it. And guess what, so does everyone else who feels a connection with it. That could be potential clients, magazine editors, make up artists, stylists, journalists… you name it.

In order for your work to stand out, and be memorable, you need to create emotion, and the most effective way to do that is by telling a story.
