Low FODMAP, Low Carb Chocolate Protein Balls

Chocolate Protein Balls

It's common knowledge on here that I've been training hard recently, and working towards a few personal #goals. These goals have meant a slight change in my diet to incorporate more protein into my diet, and a slight reduction in carbs. Now, carbs are certainly not the enemy, and I firmly believe that they're essential to everybody's diet; I eat them every day. I'm simply trying to cut them out of one or two meals a day, depending on my training.

It wasn't too hard really, but the only trouble I had was after dinner... those evil post meal cravings. Sweet things are so engrained into my "post meal life" that it had become a daily habit to much away on a big bowl of blueberries and raspberries after dinner ever night. This is definitely ok once in a while, but there's a lot of research to suggest that eating fruit after meals, late at night, isn't great for digestion. It's also a lot of sugar to be consuming at the end of the day, when I need energy the least -- I'm about to go to bed. So, I've been trying to break that habit slightly.

Chocolate Protein Balls

That's where these little dudes come in. I was advised by my PT to make some low carb, high fat, high protein "balls" to eat after dinner if my cravings became too much to bare. I went a-googling, and most of the "balls" (is it terrible that I'm too immature to write that word without giggling to myself each time...) out there are made out of dates. I freaking love dates, but I can't eat them. So, I got experimenting, until I had perfected these bad boys.

They're really yummy, super filling (honestly, you need one or two max and you'll feel full), and there's nothing nasty in them.

You'll need:200g of Pecans50g of Hazelnuts2tbsp of Vegan Chocolate Protein Powder -- I like this one.2tbsp of 100% Natural Maple Syrup (If you're not Low FODMAP, feel free to use honey)2tbsp 100% Natural Peanut Butter (or any nut butter of your choice)

Place the nuts in a food processor and blitz them for 30 seconds to a minute until they've formed a crumbly mixture.Add the rest of the ingredients, and mix until it becomes quite stiff.Take small amounts of the mixture, and mould into little balls.Place them in the fridge to let them harden up.They'll be ready to eat within an hour!Keep them stored away in the fridge for up to a week.

Let me know if you make these, and if you do, how you get on! Do you have any other low carb treats you can recommend me?
